About Project

Signal & Stack has delivered a fully integrated professional podcast studio designed for broadcast-quality production and streamlined operation.

The project demonstrates the company’s approach to building compact, high-performance media production environments using professional audio, video, and network infrastructure from leading AV manufacturers.

Beyond simply installing equipment, the studio was designed as both a production environment and a learning platform, helping users understand the technologies and workflows that power modern network-based video production.

A Compact Studio with Professional Capabilities

The studio is built around a four-seat podcast table configuration, with each position equipped with broadcast microphones and headphone monitoring to ensure consistent audio quality during recording.

Video production is handled through a multi-camera workflow, utilizing BirdDog network cameras connected through a PoE network backbone. The cameras feed a live production switching system that allows an operator to control camera angles and monitor video feeds through a dedicated multiview display.

Audio mixing and monitoring are managed through a compact digital mixer that provides full control over microphone levels, headphone feeds, and recording outputs.

Supporting infrastructure includes a Netgear PoE network switch, which powers connected devices while carrying NDI video signals across the studio network.

Key system components include:

  • BirdDog studio cameras for multi-angle video capture

  • Broadcast microphones and headphone monitoring for four participants

  • Digital audio mixing for production-quality sound control

  • Video switching with multiview monitoring

  • Netgear PoE networking supporting NDI video workflows

  • Integrated power conditioning and system protection

The result is a compact but fully capable production environment that can produce professional video podcasts, interviews, and corporate content.

Learning Through Real Production Workflows

While many podcast studios are built as simple recording spaces, this installation was intentionally designed to teach modern production practices.

The system architecture exposes users to the underlying infrastructure that powers professional broadcast environments, including network-based video transport, signal routing, and production switching.

Signal & Stack structured the installation so that users could see and understand how each part of the system interacts, from the camera network to the audio chain and production monitoring.

According to Signal & Stack founder James Oliver, the goal was to make the studio both practical and educational.

“We didn’t want this to be a black box where people push record and hope it works,” said Oliver. “The idea was to build a studio that produces professional results while also helping people understand the technology behind it.”

By exposing the production workflow rather than hiding it behind simplified tools, the studio helps users learn how professional audio and video systems operate.

“When people understand the infrastructure — the network, the signal flow, the switching — they gain confidence in operating the system,” Oliver added. “That knowledge makes the studio far more powerful over time.”

Network-Based Production

At the center of the installation is NDI (Network Device Interface) technology, which allows video signals to travel across standard Ethernet networks instead of traditional broadcast cabling.

This network-based approach simplifies installation while providing flexibility for future expansion. Cameras, control systems, and monitoring devices all connect through the same network infrastructure, allowing new equipment to be added without major rewiring.

The system’s PoE network switch powers cameras and control devices while ensuring sufficient bandwidth for multiple simultaneous video streams.

Designed for Creators and Organizations

Signal & Stack expects growing demand for professional studio environments as organizations increasingly produce their own media.

The system supports a range of applications beyond podcasting, including:

  • Video podcasts and interview shows

  • Corporate communications and executive messaging

  • Training and internal media production

  • Educational programming

  • Live-streamed panel discussions

The company plans to develop additional turnkey studio packages that combine professional equipment with clear workflows and educational support.
